Louisville Letter Carriers Test Carrying Anthrax Antidote

Postal employees in Louisville are participating in a program that would have letter carriers deliver an anthrax antidote if there is an attack. Acting Louisville Postmaster Wendy English told The Courier-Journal that more than 300 carriers have signed up to participate in the voluntary program.
Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness spokesman Dave Langdon said Louisville was chosen because of its experience in regional disaster drills.
Louisville rides momentum into tournament

Louisville has taken a crooked path to the NCAA tournament. Once ranked as high as No. 4, the injury-addled Cardinals fell out of the rankings by losing five games in a stretch of seven. Then they limped into the Big East tournament with losses in three of their final games.
But the Cardinals tore through the Big East tournament, beating Seton Hall, Marquette, Notre Dame and, finally, Cincinnati in the conference championship game.
Louisville swats away Seton Hall 61-55

Midway through the second half on Wednesday, Louisville center Gorgui Dieng ensured another Seton Hall shot would go awry by swatting it into the third row. He then extended a hand to the shooter, the Pirates’ Jordan Theodore, who fell on the play.
Theodore slapped the hand away. Dieng walked away smiling. Louisville’s eventual 61-55 victory at the Big East tournament was the bigger pick-me-up, with the No. 7 seed temporarily righting a listing ship. Now second-seeded Marquette looms in a rematch of a 2011 quarterfinal.
Louisville men arrested after cops find 285 lbs. of pot

Louisville Metro Police say they’ve arrested two men after officers discovered approximately 285 lbs. of marijuana.
According to an arrest report, police were conducting surveillance of a home in the 6600 block of Chenoweth Run Road, near Old Heady Road, and were preparing a search warrant at roughly 6 p.m. Tuesday.
I-64 bridge connecting Louisville and Indiana

The I-64 Sherman Minton Bridge over the Ohio River between Southern Indiana and Louisville, KY, has been reopened to traffic, according to the Indiana Dept. of Transportation (INDOT), ending a five-month traffic nightmare caused by the emergency closing of the Interstate crossing between Louisville and New Albany, IN.
Conrad is named Louisville police chief

Steve Conrad is the new chief of the Louisville Metro Police Department. Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer made the appointment today. Conrad, currently police chief in Glendale, Ariz., replaces Robert White, who took a similar position in Denver.
Conrad is a Louisville native with 32 years of law enforcement experience, according to a news release. He began his career in 1980 with the Louisville Division of Police as a patrol officer in the Portland, Russell, Shawnee and California neighborhoods.
Cabela’s announces plans for store in Louisville

A retailer who called themselves the world’s foremost outfitter of hunting, fishing and outdoor gear has announced plans to open a store in Louisville. Cabela’s Incorporated will open an 88,000-square-foot facility in the Old Brownsboro Crossing development.
Construction is scheduled to begin in this summer, and the store, which will be Cabela’s first store in Kentucky, is expected to open by spring of next year.
Louisville Man Accused Of Stabbing Wife

A Louisville fugitive wanted for the past year is now in custody after he was arrested in Arizona. Police said Ismaeel K. al-Kini attacked his estranged wife in front of their three young children.
Al-Kini is facing one count of first-degree assault. He is now in jail at Metro Corrections. Al-Kini used to live with his then-wife and three young children. She moved out during divorce proceedings.
Louisville oil man indicted on tax-evasion charges

An oil and gas operator who was barred from doing business in seven states for assorted securities violations has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Louisville. Martin R. Twist, who may be best known for a sculpture of his first wife he commissioned in Cave Hill Cemetery, was charged in an indictment unsealed Thursday with failing to pay withholding taxes totaling more than $355,000.
The grand jury also said he diverted up to $40,000 a month from his businesses for travel on his personal aircraft, “extravagant dining,” private school tuition, vacations, luxury vehicles and entertainment expenses.
No. 20 Louisville women strong in loss

Louisville coach Jeff Walz knew the Cardinals couldn’t stop the entire Connecticut team. So they tried to leave some players alone, hoping for a bad shooting night.
Caroline Doty did not accommodate the strategy, making 5 of 11 3 pointers to help the Huskies hold off No. 20 Louisville 56-46 Tuesday night. “They are such a good team that you’ve got to pick your poison,” Walz said.
